This course offers participants an in-depth introduction to nursery, greenhouse, and landscape work, with an emphasis on routine maintenance and plant care. Participants learn essential safety protocols, the proper use and maintenance of handheld tools and equipment, and the basic needs and growth requirements of plants. The training covers plant identification, weeding, pruning, pest and disease management, and the operation and maintenance of mowing equipment, along with practical skills in planting, mulching, and basic irrigation. The course also builds professionalism, communication, and customer service skills, preparing participants for a career in horticulture and landscaping. Participants who successfully complete the theory and hands on lab for this course earn an ACCS credential.
Academic Pathways: This non-credit workforce training course may also help participants earn college credit through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) or articulation opportunities toward select certificate or degree programs at participating Alabama community colleges. Credit awards are granted solely at the discretion of the receiving institution in accordance with its academic policies.
